Statement from CICU President on the Senate and Assembly Budget Proposals

News Date: 3/15/2018

Statement from CICU President Mary Beth Labate on the Senate and Assembly one-house budget proposals released this week:

“We commend the Senate and Assembly for restoring  Bundy Aid in their one-house budget proposals. Bundy Aid is critical student aid for the 500,000 students at New York’s more than 100 private, not-for-profit colleges and universities. We are also very pleased to see that both houses expanded the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Incentive Scholarship Program to include students who choose to attend a private, not-for-profit college or university,” said Mary Beth Labate, president of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities.

“We look forward to a final Enacted budget that includes both these provisions and as well as expanded funding for opportunity programs and improvements to the Enhanced Tuition Awards program to allow more students to benefit. I want to thank the Assembly and Senate for their creative approaches to helping students meet college expenses and their ongoing commitment to all students who want to pursue their college dreams in New York State,” Labate said.
