Statement from CICU President Mary Beth Labate on Private Colleges' Efforts to Prevent the Spread of Covid-19:

“From the very start, New York’s private colleges have recognized and taken seriously the threat of Covid-19 spread on their campuses. As students, faculty, and staff have returned to our campuses over the past several weeks – many enduring 14-day quarantines when they arrived in New York – positive cases on our campuses have remained very low.

“As the Governor pointed out, we do not live in an authoritarian state and no college can stop all unwanted student behaviors, but New York’s private colleges will remain vigilant in testing and enforcement to keep our campus communities safe. We will continue to utilize innovative public health surveillance techniques including pooled testing and wastewater testing. We look forward to working with our colleagues in the public sector and state policymakers to keep all New Yorkers safe.”
