Statement from CICU President Mary Beth Labate on President’s Race and Sex Stereotyping Executive Order

“The Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities strongly opposes any and all stereotyping by race or sex. The recent Executive Order on Combating Race and Sex Stereotyping does little to address problems of discrimination based on race or sex and amplifies concerns in the academic community regarding undue government oversight and intrusion. This Executive Order will affect academic freedom and force many colleges to consider cancelling certain classes and amending syllabi to avoid running afoul of these burdensome new guidelines. CICU joins other national education organizations including the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) and the American Council on Education (ACE) in urging the Trump Administration to rescind this directive.”
