News Date: 6/9/2021

Statement from CICU President Lola W. Brabham on the passage of S.5666/A.7490:

“CICU applauds the State Legislature for passing legislation that will enable more talented students to enroll in graduate programs in education fields, and to pursue careers as teachers and school leaders. These bills address longstanding arbitrary requirements and discriminatory barriers that discourage good candidates from entering the classroom. Removing these impediments to pursuing a career in education will ensure equity in the admissions process, and help New York develop a workforce of educators who are as diverse as the students they teach and communities they serve. We urge Governor Cuomo to sign this important legislation into law.”
