News Date: 1/20/2022

ALBANY, N.Y. (Jan. 18, 2022) – In response to Governor Kathy Hochul’s proposed FY 2023 executive budget, Lola W. Brabham, President of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU) said:

“CICU commends Governor Hochul for putting forth an FY 2023 Executive Budget proposal that makes important investments in higher education and provides educational opportunities to New Yorkers. The investments in higher education proposed by the Governor align with the goals and priorities of the more than 100 private, not-for-profit colleges and universities that are part of CICU. The funds allocated for Bundy Aid and opportunity programs will undoubtedly help more students complete their degrees, create employment opportunities throughout the state, and continue to spark economic development. The proposed investment in the Higher Education Capital (HECap) Matching Grant Program will create jobs across the state and help campuses upgrade their facilities to benefit students and communities. The expansion of TAP will eliminate barriers to education for part-time and incarcerated students. Access to higher education is critical for all students and CICU campuses remain committed to our partnership with the state to better serve our students. We look forward to working with the State Legislature toward enactment of these proposals.”
