Higher Ed Matter of Fact: Independent Sector Continues to Create Jobs in NYS

  • A well-tuned job engine, the Independent Sector generated 394,386 campus and spillover jobs throughout New York State in 2013. Job growth in the IS has increased by five perscent since 2011 and by 20 percent since 2005.
  • These jobs carried a payroll impact of $26.5 billion in 2013, a 15 percent increase over 2011's total.




The jobs available in the sector reflect an impressive diversity: teachers, researchers, administrators, healthcare workers, maintenance crews and suppport service professionals.
