They came to study, drawn to the excellence of its colleges and universities.
Then, inspired by the New York state of mind, they decided to stay. If they wandered for just a bit, they returned with a passion for New York. Some worked for established organizations, others built businesses of their own, more than a few found opportunities in arts and theater, and a number of these graduates of independent colleges and universities give to others the chance to make a life, launch a career, or find their footing in New York State.
New York is a leading destination for first - time students from other states, and eight in ten of these individuals enroll at a private college or university. Our 2005 Alumni Hall of Distinction honors these graduates, who hail from many other states and some other countries, yet who all choose to call New York State "home."
Each year the 100+ private colleges and universities in New York State educate 440,000 students. The Alumni Hall of Distinction honors some of our distinguished graduates: men and women who help make New York State great.
