They don’t think of themselves as heroes. They consider serving their country a privilege, and an experience that has helped them as much as it has helped others. Through their military service, they have grown in all their various roles, whether as student, parent, brother, sister, employee, or entrepreneur.
The 19 individuals honored in our 2008 Alumni Hall of Distinction represent the diversity of branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. They served in times of peace and in times of war. These New York State Independent Sector graduates are veterans of World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Some were called up while in the midst of earning a degree; others served after graduation and still others entered college after their return from duty.
They represent different academic majors, different professions, and different backgrounds and perspectives on life. Their common link, though, is their willingness to give back to their country and the positive changes the military experience brought to their lives.
They may not consider themselves heroes. But we do.
In appreciation, we salute you for your valor, your responsiveness, and your generosity of spirit.
